ubiquitouswall / 偏在する壁
When most of you think of the ubiquitous landscape in ordinary lives, the wall surfaces that appear in it should be familiar, not eccentric. This project is a sculpture series that takes these familiar wall surfaces and transforms them into extraordinary works of art, using industrial materials in a crafting way.
For example, when walking through the streets of Tokyo, you will often see the exterior walls of buildings covered with standardised galvanised steel sheets. We have sublimated their finely rippled habitude into a one-of-a-kind sculptural work. It is a view that you would typically pay little attention to, but you will find value in its form.
In addition, some walls that appear to have no character have been repeatedly fitted and removed with signs and machinery, leaving the underlying timber as remains. The accidental encounter between metal and wood is made appreciable by artificially sculpting the habitude that would generally be created by accident.
Alternatively, if you go to a town with an old-fashioned atmosphere, you will find walls built in the traditional style, such as cypress lattices and bamboo fences, everywhere. Nowadays, the habitude of towns made of natural materials is gradually disappearing due to problems with their service life. Therefore, we have preserved the primal landscape for the future by expressing these appearances in aluminium sculptures, connecting you to the past through our art.
普段の生活の中で遍在する風景を思い浮かべる時、その中に現れる壁面は決して偏屈なものでは無く、馴染みの深いものであるはずです。この作品は、そんな見慣れた壁面を、工業材を用いながらも職人的な制作技法で再現することで、非日常的なものへと変貌させる彫刻シリーズである。
例えば、東京の街を歩いていると、規格品のガルバリウム鋼鈑で覆われた建物の外壁をたびたび散見します。その細かに波打つ佇まいを一点物の彫刻作品に昇華しました。普段なら気にも止めない景色ですが、その形態に価値を見出すことができることでしょう。
また、無個性に見える壁の中には、看板や機械が取り付けては外されてを繰り返し、下地の木材が遺構となって残っているものもあります。本来であれば偶発的に生まれる佇まいを作為的に彫刻化することで、金属と木材の偶然の出会いを鑑賞可能にしています。
或いは、古くからの風情が残る町に出向くと、檜の面格子や竹垣といった伝統的な様式で造られた壁をどこにでも発見できます。昨今、自然素材で作られる町の佇まいは、耐用年数を問題点とし徐々に消えつつあります。ですので、それらの表情をアルミの彫刻で表現することで、原風景を未来に残し、作品を介して鑑賞者と現在を繋いでいます。
